Little Bird – “Out! In the Sun!”

Charleston’s resident psychedelic groove band Little Bird dropped their highly-anticipated new single, “Out! In the Sun!” this weekend. It’s the group’s first release since 2021’s PROXIMA and the first single off their upcoming new record.

“Out! In the Sun!” is just fuzzy enough to convey a hazy, just-woke-up-from-a-nap-by-the-pool sort of pleasant delirium without obscuring the instrumental complexity exhibited by the musicians. There’s a touch of summertime listlessness in the acoustic guitar. A deep bass line gives the song that Little Bird funk flavor, while savvy production choices add slickness. 

Frontman Jay Hurtt sings in his usual dreamy cadence as he delivers musings like “now we’re blooming in the light just like we’re marigolds.”

Little Bird debuted “Out! In the Sun!” during their impressive recent performance at Peach Music Festival, undoubtedly transforming many of the unfamiliar faces in the audience into new fans.
