Abstract – That Rapper – “Wu Would Never Die” ft. Dr. Mambo (Video)

On Friday night, Abstract – That Rapper dropped the music video for his often-performed live track “Wu Would Never Die”, featuring an instrumental beat from Charleston jazz/trip-hop band Dr. Mambo. The beat itself is actually the song “Terraformation” off Dr. Mambo’s new album Corridors. Abstract has been working and performing with Dr. Mambo for a few years now, and it’s dope to see that they’ve collaborated on a track like this.

The “Wu Would Never Die” video was created by Stephen Massar, who is also the drummer and co-producer for Dr. Mambo. Filmed at the Purple Buffalo, it keeps up with that mysterious vibe that Dr. Mambo has curated, except it’s mixed with Abstract’s undeniable cool. This song and video significantly raises the hype for Abstract’s upcoming EP, Mosaic.

Abstract has also just announced a monthly residency of sorts at the Purple Buffalo, called StractApproved Vol. 1. Starting on Saturday, February 15th, StractApproved will be a showcase of underground hip-hop in Charleston, all curated by Abstract – That Rapper. There will be 3 or 4 emcees per night, and a DJ to keep things rolling. See the Facebook event for that here.
