As summer hits record highs, we still have more #GxldApproved heat, to keep you Extra Chill. North Charleston natives, J9NX and Blackkberrie recently released the video to their anthem “Hood Made Me” shot by Carolina Coast Visuals. A high energy tribute to the roots that they are bred from and thrive in, Charleston, SC.
J9NX, known for his culinary prowess through Southern Royalty BBQ and Catering, uses his business as the raw focal point in the video. It shows him in action, whipping up some belly busting bbq, repping his section to the fullest, and exhibiting the hustle required to run a successful business from the ground-up in the city.
Blackkberrie, a proud member of the Geechie Gang, bridges the song with melodies and proclamations to her loyalty for Charleston. I enjoy how “Hood Made Me” sets an emphasis on an authentic representation of community and music. It is a celebration of the people, the culture, and the unbreakable pride that resides in Charleston.
The brash delivery and bold lyrical presence of J9NX, paired with Blackkberrie’s chant-like verse, came together and represented the city in true fashion: through pride, food and music. Check out the #GxldApproved “Hood Made Me” music video below.
