She Returns From War – “Mignonette”
She Returns From War has just released a new single called “Mignonette”, the first to come from her upcoming sophomore album, Ruthless. The album was first announced on stage during a memorable performance at High Water Fest, where Hunter Park’s powerful songs and stage presence had the crowd welling up in tears.
“Mignonette” was recorded here in Charleston at The Space, with producers Wolfgang Zimmerman (Invisible Low-End Power, Brave Baby, Band of Horses) and Joel Hamilton (Mechanical River), with Josh Kaler on the steel guitar.
Hunter shares that recording with the aforementioned crew was “a viper pit of talent that spanned over the course of several years constructing songs with the emotional ups and downs I have experienced over the last five years.“
She continues, saying that “working with them so intensely while the world was in such an unsure place sometimes felt like opening the floodgates in the studio or over skype/online chat sessions, wherever we could show our emotions in a safe and known place.”
The track is dreamy, gloomy, and even sinister, exploring themes of stolen love, and someone waiting on the outside of a relationship for things to fall apart. It places Hunter’s talent for emotional storytelling at the forefront — something that has long been known locally as incredible and will soon be known all over.
About the new single, Hunter says: “‘Mignonette’ peers into the intimate perspective of the person unchosen. There’s always someone on the outside playing along with the wicked games lovers play. The other girls sometimes choose the path of being strung along, but they can learn to become the puppeteer.”
The release comes in advance of an exciting second half of 2023 for She Returns From War including a co-headlining performance at our very own Extra Chill Fest on August 19th, as well as supporting S.G. Goodman on the road for a few nights in October.
