Human Resources – “Better”

Well-seasoned Charleston dance rock band Human Resources are back with their first single release of 2023, “Better”. The track follows 2022’s “Orange Tree” in the line of sporadic releases that have come since the release of their last full-length album, Champagne, in 2018.

However that’s all about to change, as back in February 2023 Human Resources revealed their intentions to release a new full-length album later this year, and “Better” is the first offering from the band since that news.

Like most of HR’s music, “Better” was recorded here in Charleston at Coast Records, home of the band’s drummer, Matt Zutell. This one features guitarist Dries Vandenberg on lead vocals, which is something that we haven’t heard from them in a while, as bassist Aaron Utterback has sung lead on most of their recent releases.

“Better” is a song about trying to let go of old patterns and move forward within yourself, while also dealing with external problems like relationships and being broke. It follows more of a traditional structure than some of their other recent releases, but they still find ways to experiment within that structure, creating multiple layers of sound. Upbeat and catchy, the track also contains subtleties that show Human Resources’ great strength of creative collaboration within the studio.

Check out “Better” below and stay tuned for more news on the upcoming album release.
