Human Resources – “Mom Jeans” (Live at Coast Records)

Last week, Human Resources played a surprise late-night show at The Royal American after Chris Wilcox and Tom Mackell. If you were there, you might remember them tossing in a cover of Heyrocco’s classic “Mom Jeans”. If you enjoyed that, you’re in luck this morning because we’ve got a special Christmas treat for your stockings: a live video of Human Resources playing “Mom Jeans” at Coast Records.

This cover dates back to earlier this year, when B-Side Sessions started a series of videos featuring local artists covering other local artists. Human Resources went into Fairweather Studio and tracked a few songs with engineer Omar Colon. The B-Side Sessions videos from Fairweather were still in the works, but the band decided to film at Coast Records instead so they could release this before Heyrocco’s homecoming show at The Royal American this Wednesday night. The video released this morning was filmed by Dries Vandenberg, with audio mixed by Matt Zutell.

According to Human Resources, they decided to cover “Mom Jeans” out of respect for their friends in Heyrocco. The two bands played a few shows together back when Heyrocco still lived in Charleston, and if you’re familiar with either of these bands you know that also means they drank a ton of beer together. “It’s our shoutout to the boys on the west coast. Charleston was instantly less rock n roll the day they moved,” says Human Resources bassist Aaron Utterback.

There are two more videos in the holster from this session, Human Resources originals “Sylvia” and “No Need” off their 2018 album Champagne. Those videos will be released in the new year.

Enjoy Human Resources’ take on “Mom Jeans” by Heyrocco below, and go to The Royal American on Wednesday, December 26th to catch Heyrocco’s first Charleston show in over a year. They’ll be joined by The Dumbest Kids in School, Dead Swells, and Baby Yaga. Cover is $10 at the door. Facebook event here.
