Premiere: Tom Mackell – “Hannah”

The last time I saw Tom Mackell was a few months back, hanging out on the porch at The Royal American. At the time he was between dates on a tour with 90s legends Sister Hazel. He was stoked for the opportunity, and said that the crowds were responding really well to his sound. He also mentioned a few other things he had in the works, including some new tunes that he was in the process of writing and recording at the time.

This morning, we’re happy to premiere the first taste of what Tom Mackell has in store for us, a new single called “Hannah”. Tom co-wrote the track with Dylan Sheppard, and recorded it at Saxman Studios and Blue Roof Studio, both in Nashville. Then he sent it off to Matt Zutell at Coast Records here in Charleston for mixing.

“Hannah” touches upon some unspecified legal trouble that Tom recently found himself wrapped up in. The song crafts a narrative around this legal trouble, seeking help from a woman named Hannah who seems to be the only one who can get Tom back on his feet.

Mackell is currently finalizing a new EP, from which “Hannah” is the first single. Tom is also going on tour through the Northeast and Midwest with fellow Nashville artist Tony Lucca, whom you might remember as a finalist on the 2012 season of NBC’s The Voice. Several of those dates are already sold out.

Tom Mackell will also be playing a show in Charleston on Saturday, December 15th at The Royal American with Chris Wilcox and Thompson Faulk. He will finish out 2018 strong with an NYC performance at Rockwood Music Hall on December 18th.
