Slim S.O.U.L – bsides (Full Session)

Late last night, bsides dropped a full live session featuring Slim S.O.U.L, Abstract – That Rapper, and members of Little Bird as backing band. The session was filmed at the Purple Buffalo, and features performances of four tracks off Slim’s recent album, Late Graduation: “Back Back”, “Prof X”, “Manna”, and “Soul Glow”. Slim and Abstract have always been great together, and the collaboration with Little Bird adds a S.O.U.Lful instrumental backdrop to the message of the lyrics.

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve certainly noticed that both Slim and Abstract have been crushing it lately, both musically and otherwise, taking the time to educate and inspire people in the ongoing fight against systemic racism, police brutality, and white supremacy in South Carolina. If you haven’t been paying attention, Abstract says it best in this session: “Wake the fuck up”.

This past week has also been huge for Slim’s nonprofit, S.O.U.L Power Productions. In addition to a big push on the S.O.U.L Power GoFundMe Page, there was also a two-day live stream over weekend, a collaborative effort by Slim, Abstract, Little Stranger, Coast Records, Graft Wine Shop, & more. The stream, in addition to donations and merch sales have allowed S.O.U.L Power to raise over $5000 toward their mission of having a physical location to teach kids in underprivileged communities about music and spreading love through arts advocacy, education, and production technologies.

The last I spoke with Slim was on Friday night, and he was excited about the future of S.O.U.L Power. We made plans to sit down for an interview to talk more about the project once he gets things going. Stay tuned.

If you would like to donate to S.O.U.L Power, and I highly recommend you do so, the GoFundMe page is still live and accepting donations here.
