Homemade Haircuts – “Savor”

Charleston indie rockers Homemade Haircuts have released a new single this morning called “Savor”. The track marks the band’s first new release of the year and features an enhanced lineup including none other than Brett Nash (Secret Guest, Band of Horses, 10 other bands) on lead guitar, and Paisley Marie (Paisley and The Birdwalkers) on bass.

“Savor” has darker tones than most of the material on last year’s debut Sun Showers release, with more of a psych-punk influence than we heard in the past. It does maintain the upbeat essence that drew people to the band initially, but much to my pleasure it loses some of the bubble gum feel.

I have stood in the crowd watching this band, thinking to myself that I wish they would play “louder”. This is a step in that direction. Now I’m just waiting for some more vocal intensity.

The release comes in advance of the band’s June run of shows through the Southeast. Next hometown show is at The Royal American July 22 with Tennis Courts and Lighthearted.
