Sometimes when big-name artists book a tour, they team up with music streaming behemoth Spotify to offer an exclusive presale code to their top fans. This code gives early access to tickets, allowing the most dedicated fans to get the best seats possible.
If a show is likely to sell out fast, this can be the best way to ensure you get a ticket at face value (plus ridiculous fees, but that’s a rant for another day), rather than having to pay the often-expensive resale price.
Spotify sends out these presale codes via their “Fans First” emails.
In addition to early access concert tickets, Fans First emails often offer early or exclusive access to merchandise, special edition vinyl pre-orders, and more.
Spotify’s criteria for determining the top fans for a certain artist is fairly simple.
As long as you have Spotify News and Offers notifications enabled on your account, you will get Fans First opportunities from artists if you meet just one of the two following criteria:
- You follow the artist
- You’re among the top fans for the artist, according to Spotify’s data
Best of all, you don’t need to have Spotify Premium to get Fans First email. Spotify extends this benefit even to its free subscribers.
So, if there is an artist that you are itching to see live, go ahead and give them a follow on Spotify. Then make sure you have News and Offers notifications enabled on your Spotify account.
Read on to find out how to do that.
How to Enable Spotify Fans First Emails
You can access your Spotify account on either the Spotify website or the mobile app.
- Open your web browser and go to accounts.spotify.com
- In the sidebar, navigate to “Notification Settings”
- Under the “Spotify Updates” heading, check the boxes for email and/or push notifications beside “Spotify News and Offers”
- Hit the “Save” button at the bottom of the page.
As a bonus, you may want to consider enabling “Artist Updates” to be the first to know about new releases and more from artists you follow.
- Open the Spotify app
- Tap the settings, or gear icon in the top right corner of the screen
- Tap “Notifications”
- Tap “Spotify News and Offers”
- Select push, email, or both
Now, when Spotify presale codes for your favorite artists are sent out, you’ll be in the loop.
Keep in mind that Spotify simply enters into a partnership with the artists to provide these special perks. They are not responsible for the actual sale of the tickets or merchandise, so any inquiries related to the actual purchasing should be brought up directly with the vendor.
