Caminator Releases Debut EP Is This Real? (Interview)

Cameron Wescott, aka Caminator, multi-instrumental talent and member of Psycodelics and Stop Light Observations, revealed his debut EP as a solo artist, Is This Real?, last week. The Valentine’s Day release is a true standout, showcasing Wescott’s skill in creating tracks that are extremely compelling on their own and also work in harmony to form a stunningly cohesive whole.

Is This Real? is a 6 song, R&B focused EP that features elements of pop and electronic music. One of the strongest tracks is “Need Ur Luv,” which begins with a contemplative, latin-influenced guitar line that fades to atmospheric synth as Wescott layers in dreamy vocals, followed by electronic beats.

“One-Sided,” a fast-paced, beat-driven song, is another gem. Wescott sings “I’ll be your man / If you’ll be my woman,” managing to be soulful while at the same time not taking himself too seriously.

Wescott’s production choices show a keen sense of artistry, made all the more impressive by the fact that the EP is a DIY project in the truest sense.

“This record was really cool because most of it was recorded when I was 19, all on GarageBand using my iPhone,” Wescott said.

“It’s my first EP and was very special to me to put out because I produced every track and performed it all, with the exception of Whitt Burn on lead guitar for ‘Tried to Relate’ and ‘Is This Real?'”

“I’m glad I held onto it for so long because now I’m more eager than ever to put out new material, and I’m excited for the world to see how I freak it,” he said.

Caminator is one of the most exciting artists making music in the state right now, and we’re fully confident that he’s headed for widespread notoriety. Check out Is This Real? below.
