Daddy’s Beemer – “Studying Roses”

This morning, Daddy’s Beemer released a new single called “Studying Roses”. The release comes just over a week before their co-headlining performance at Extra Chill Fest, and is the first new, original material from the band since the Denmark release cycle of 2020.

Out just in time for the start of fall, “Studying Roses” is a cool, breezy tune that prominently features acoustic guitar, and gently builds into an electrifying breakdown. It may or may not be part of a larger project that we can expect to hear more about later this fall.

“Studying Roses” was recorded with Preston Dunavant at the same house in Denmark, SC where Daddy’s Beemer recorded their last album. This time around, however, they took a different approach to recording and producing, as bassist Wesley Heaton explains:

“We practiced it a lot before we went into the studio. With the last album, we kind of wrote the songs, went into the studio and took a lot of time arranging them, figuring them out. This song we practiced, had it ready, went into the studio, recorded it live, and it’s very close to how it will sound at Extra Chill Fest.”

Daddy’s Beemer took the most straightforward approach they could with “Studying Roses” and other potential new material, casting aside most studio embellishments in favor of a raw, live sound.

“You can make up quotes from me, if you want,” says guitarist / keyboardist Dan Fetterolf. “Whatever you want me to say, you can just have me say it.”

The cover art for “Studying Roses” was a family effort from the Daddy’s Beemer crew, with Wesley’s girlfriend Zoe Grimm styling the hair of vocalist and guitarist Brady Sklar’s fiancĂ© Rachel Branham. Zoe will be working with the band on more cover art going forward.

“You ain’t never seen no shit like this before,” Fetterolf says.
