Semkari – “Did It On” (Video)

Rapper and vocalist Semkari released a video for his new song “Did It On” on Friday. It is the artist’s first release since his album Lovers Nightmare, which we covered here on Extra Chill in October.

“Did It On” keeps a quick pace but seems, at least sonically, slightly downcast. Semkari raps in a pattern — the first three verses end on the same note, then he finishes the fourth with a note going up, almost like a question. His wordplay is both humorous, with quick lines like “I’m geeky like Urkel,” and serious, with standout verses such as “The lessons I learned / the bridges I burned / I burned in the fire / I’m calling my light.”

The video (directed and shot by Whoisslimm) shows Semkari and friends hanging out outside of Ashe Street Convenience Store and partying around a fire pit. Animated butterflies randomly adorn some shots, adding a playful element.

“I did this on purpose,” Semkari repeats, lending a serious note to the song. Watch the video for “Did It On” below.
