Band of Horses – “Lights”

Band of Horses released a new single, “Lights,” last week. It’s a lively track that might be my favorite of the new songs. Reminiscent of some of the band’s older work, “Lights” displays the best of Band of Horses while still sounding fresh.

Steady drumming and strumming keep the pace, and the lyrics are a wild ride: “I saw the lights turn on / lights turn off / too many cops in the yard / cars on the lawn.” Bridwell’s voice echoes satisfyingly throughout the chorus.

“Lights” seems to continue a paradoxical thread that has been common in all of the band’s new releases: a sort of sarcastic cheerfulness; an optimistic hopelessness. If the title is any indication, we’re guessing the band’s newest album, Things Are Great, will be the culmination of this theme.

Stream “Lights” by Band of Horses below and stay tuned for Things Are Great to drop on March 4.
