Human Resources – ‘Live from Coast Records’

The downtown Charleston recording and mixing studio, Coast Records, is a special place for our friends in Human Resources, and maybe a few others. The studio is operated by the band’s drummer and producer, Matt Zutell, and it’s where they recorded their 2018 album, Champagne. This morning, Human Resources released a live EP titled Live from Coast Records, forever tying the studio to their name, for better or for worse.

Live from Coast Records features live in-studio recordings of three tracks, two of which appeared on Champagne (“Sylvia + “No Need”), and the third their cover of Heyrocco’s “Mom Jeans”. These recordings were originally from a session the band did at Fairweather Studio with engineer Omar Colon. Zutell then mixed the recordings, For The Record mastered them, and HR released live videos filmed at Coast Records for “Sylvia” and “Mom Jeans”.

“Recording a live session at Coast is basically a home game for us,” bassist/vocalist Aaron Utterback says. “3/4 of us live right across the street. Matt is in there engineering/producing/mixing almost every day, we track on his projects all the time, and it’s where we rehearse.”

The release of Live from Coast Records comes just a few weeks ahead of the first of Human Resources show since May. Check out the live EP below, and see them live and in person via the rare list of four tour dates below that.
