Never Better – “Mind” (Video)

Never Better is a brand new dystopian rock project based in Charleston who just made their debut in the form of an animated music video for the single “Mind”. The band is fronted by D.J. Edwards, whom you might know as the head of Real South Records, the Assistant Editor of this here music blog, or for his work as a sound engineer. DJ plays bass and sings, with a rockin’ backing band consisting of Avery Greeson (of Whitehall and Baby Yaga) on guitar, Jeremy Hunton (of Bizness Suit) on drums, and Matt Tuton (of The Lab) on keys.

“Mind” is a re-imagining of The Strokes’ classic “Reptilia”. DJ borrowed the lyrics from Julian Casablancas, and ran them through his own filter to come up with something that is more suited to his style. It’s certainly not a cover, though, as it’s clearly much different than what The Strokes did with it.

The animated video for “Mind” by Never Better was created by DJ himself. DJ is pretty new to animation, but he’s already found a degree of success with the craft. His recent animation for Drivin N Cryin’s new single “Step By Step” hit the web last week and was featured in both Billboard and Rolling Stone.

According to DJ, the band is sitting on a few more completed recordings. I’ve also heard whispering about a few upcoming shows that have yet to be announced. They’ve only played out twice thus far, and I imagine they’re itching to get out there and play some more shows.
