Premiere: Easy Honey – B-Side Sessions

The dudes in Easy Honey started playing music together as students at Sewanee in Tennessee, where they graduated from in 2017. According to their interview with The Fringe (RIP) last year, when they graduated they started looking around at places to move the band. Easy Honey eventually decided to move to Charleston based on the waves at Folly (I guess they like small waves), and the good things they’d heard about our music scene. 

After moving here last year, Easy Honey released a self-titled full-length album. The Charleston music scene has been quick to embrace Easy Honey’s garage rock jams, and they are one of the fastest growing bands in town. They recently played to a sold out College of Charleston crowd at the 1770 Records Boat Show, and they have another big one lined up for this Friday, December 14th, when they’ll be opening for Funk You at The Pour House. The band says they’ll be serving up free spoonfuls of honey before, during, and after the show.

This morning, we’re happy to share a new B-Side Sessions video featuring Easy Honey. In this one, Easy Honey plays two songs at Fairweather Studio, where owner Omar Colon handled engineering and mixing. The first is “Come On Over” off their self-titled album, and the second is a brand new song called “Emily”. According to the band, they plan to get into the studio to record “Emily” and more in the first half of 2019.

Easy Honey says that the new music they’ve been working on reflects the collaborative writing process that they’ve adopted since moving into a house in West Ashley house together. The band typically works with an idea presented by either Selby Austin or Darby McGlone, both of whom play guitar and sing. From there they work it out in their at-home practice space until they come up with something they feel good about.

Overall, Easy Honey is happy with their decision to move to Charleston. As an added bonus, drummer Charlie Holt has seen some serious mustache development since he’s been here. Must be something in the PBR.
