On Friday night, Austin alt-rock band Tokyo Vinyl performed at Vinyl Beauty Bar, the unique salon, record shop, and concert venue on the east side. Tokyo Vinyl kicked off the evening followed by Nebraska’s JACK and fellow locals Yahtzee Brown.
Photographer Steve Hughes was there to capture the evening, and reports a rockin’ set with a nostalgic, punk edge, led by singer Natalie Elena’s raw vocals and Nick Bigger’s guitar riffs, backed up by drummer Jordan Levelle and bassist Tiffany Hildebrand.
The group’s sound, which has been described as blending the fierce energy of Paramore, the catchy hooks of South Arcade, and the gritty style of Arctic Monkeys, was dialed in at this show leading up to SXSW.
Tokyo Vinyl debuted two new unreleased songs: “Pretty Two Faced” and “If You Please”, and recently released the single “Between the Lines”.
