On Thursday, April 10th, My Morning Jacket brought their new album, is, to Austin’s Moody Amphitheater with support from Grace Cummings. The band was fresh off their annual festival, One Big Holiday, and have plans to tour through much of the remainder of 2025.

The Austin show had them firing on all cylinders, clearly with a special place in their hearts for this city. Frontman Jim James told the crowd that Austin was one of the first places where their music was embraced all those years ago.

They came out swinging with “Lay Low,” a favorite from their 2005 album, Z, before rollicking through a set packed with selections from their entire discography.

Notably, after the highlight “Phone Went West,” My Morning Jacket brought out Grace Cummings for a special tribute to Willie Nelson, “Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain,” with a segue directly into “Only Memories Remain.” This was their first-ever live performance of the tune, and the crowd in Austin loved every minute. Rounding out the main event was “Wordless Chorus” with an extended outro jam, followed by a four-song encore including the deep cut “Hopefully” from 2001’s At Dawn, and finally, “Dancefloors” to send us off into the evening.

There are only a handful of bands on this planet who continue to deliver consistent quality and improvement over the span of nearly three decades, and My Morning Jacket is one of them. The new album, is, is excellent and their live show keeps getting better with more songs to choose from, and unique covers like we saw in Austin.

If you have a chance to see this band, I highly recommend you jump on that opportunity.
