MJT, the jazzy, soulful Long Island trio of brothers Matt, Jordan, and David Godfrey, has just released a new single, “Hopeless.” The track comes from their upcoming album, Mr. NoOne Pt. 2, due out later this spring.

“This song ‘Hopeless’ was written with the idea of being an introspective, almost meditative, middle point of the story,” David Godfrey says of the single’s place in their new album. “The concept is a modern day love story, filled with insecurities, extremes, and irrational second guessing, with lyrics like, Am I selfish. Am I worthless. Am I losing all control.”

“Hopeless” brings a unique sonic flavor, making hairpin turns as it flows effortlessly between genres, blending elements of prog, soul, and rock into a refreshing cocktail.

“Sonically, we just wanted it to exist somewhere between a dream state and one’s raw reality,” Godfrey continues. “Make an atmosphere that felt like that feeling of being on the edge of sleep..not quite conscious and not quite unconscious.”

The Godfrey brothers have an inspiring story, one that includes sneaking out of a homeless shelter to win the legendary Amateur Night at Harlem’s Apollo Theater in 2009, giving them their first taste of national spotlight.

Stay tuned for Mr. NoOne Pt. 2 and more from MJT coming soon.
