Jerry Cantrell thrilled fans at the Charleston Refinery on August 30th, 2025 playing classic Alice in Chains songs, solo material and new tracks from his fourth studio album, I Want Blood.
In perfect Charleston fashion, a brief afternoon drizzle cleared just before the show, creating a cool, pleasant atmosphere.
The crowd was noticeably diverse. Fans turned up in vintage Alice in Chains or grunge apparel, holding albums and merch hoping for an autograph.
Opening act Sparta led by former At the Drive-in front-man Jim Ward delivered solid-engaging vocals and riffs that captivated the crowd’s ears.
They put on a solid show that generated anticipation, perfectly priming the audience for Jerry Cantrell’s headlining set.
Jerry kicked off with Alice in Chains hits, playing his 1984 G&L Rampage “No War” guitar, while wearing sunglasses and a white coat.
Zach Throne helped carry the show with vocals and guitar, harmonizing with Jerry Cantrell, filling the void left by the late Layne Staley.
The set featured classic Alice in Chains numbers, solo favorites and fresh releases from Jerry’s critically acclaimed I Want Blood album (October 18, 2024)
that features contributions from Robert Trujillo, Duff McKagan, and Greg Puciato. It has been noted (with praise) that this might be Jerry’s heaviest work yet.
Enthusiastic applause from a roused crowd filled the refinery with a sense of genuine excitement.
One person I spoke with, who had not been able to see Alice in Chains at its peak, called the concert a bucket-list moment that hit the nostalgia button.
Cantrell closed the night with the iconic “Rooster”. The vibe was palpable.
