Goose brought their 11th annual holiday celebration, Goosemas, to the North Charleston Coliseum this past weekend. This year’s theme revived a concept from their 2020 Bingo tour including 70’s themed game show antics including an emcee named Lucky Lou, dunk tanks, inflatable flamingos, and a bingo wheel which would draw the songs to be played during the 4+ hour concerts each night.

Fans participated in the fun as each household attending Goosemas had their own bingo board emailed to them. Depending on the pattern you drew throughout the weekend, you were entered to win anything from merch to an all inclusive package to their 3 Night Viva el Gonzo in San Jose Del Cabo in May.

Night One

Both nights kicked off with Lucky Lou introducing the band as “The Funky Few” before starting the Jordan era Chicago Bulls walkout song “Sirius” by The Alan Parsons Project as an intro to the night. On night one, Lucky Lou came out to draw the first pull of “Yeti” before pulling “Butter Rum” “Arcadia” “Turbulence & The Night Rays” and “Silver Rising” to close out the first set of the weekend.

The first and second set featured multiple songs from Vasudo, the bands project with Matt Cambell. “Hot Love & The Lazy Poet” was pulled before “Give it Time” and “Mr. Action.” After this segment Lucky Lou emerged and flashed a bingo ball for “Hungersite” to which the crowd erupted. After one of the more cohesive “Hungersite”s, the band launched into “Flodown” “726” before inviting Nicole D’Elisa up for Bonus Ball #6, an incredible version of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir”. You can check out this entire portion of the show on their Youtube.

Set two closed out with pulls of “Into the Myst” and “Big Modern!” The band encored with “Same Old Shananigans” and “Seekers on the Ridge Pt I” “Seekers on the Ridge Pt II” and “(dawn)” to close out night one.

Night Two

Night two gave off a more seamless approach to bingo night. Instead of waiting until the end of songs for a new bingo draw, they pulled for balls in earlier stages of songs, prompting them to figure out how to transition from one song to the next. After the same intro as the night before, the band pulled “Madhuvan and “Borne” before pulling Bonus Ball #5 and performing Paul Simon’s “Slip Slidin’ Away”.

The first set then drew “One In, One Out” followed by “D & B & Flamingos” that saw Rick & Peter do a lap on the floor crowd surfing on inflatable flamingos. The 14 Minute Jam ball and “Rockdale” were pulled to close out the set on an incredibly high note.

Set 2 showcased the most impressive musicianship throughout the weekend as the band brought out every emotion in the crowd. A slower version of “All I Need” kicked things off before pulling “Creatures”, “The Empress of Organos” and two Bonus Balls back to back.

The band played disco classics “Don’t Leave Me This Way” and “Get Down Tonight” before abbreviated versions of “Atlas Dogs” and “Echo of a Rose”. To close out the second set on night two Goose pulled the ball titled $READY which launched them into a segment of “Slow Ready > So Ready > Slow Ready” leaving fans immensely satisfied prior to the encore.

Night 2’s encore began with Peter Anspach thanking the crowd for coming out and explaining they would pull one more ball before playing “some other stuff”. After “Dripfield”, which completed many folks bingo cards, the band plunged into a jam that saw Trevor Weekz on bass leave the stage briefly while a road case was rolled on stage in front of him. Weekz emerged back as DJ Marb Menthols and performed a Live Band DJ set while Lucky Lou shot T-Shirts into the air throughout the jam. After those shenanigans, Goose dropped into the Grateful Dead suite “Help on the Way > Slipknot > Franklin’s Tower” in its entirety before closing out with a reprise of the “The Empress of Organos” from early in set two.
