Coachella Artist of the Day: Devo — Friday Spotlight

Devo takes the Friday spotlight

Ohio-born new wave provocateurs Devo hit Coachella on Friday — expect jagged, satirical art-punk and a visual show complete with the band’s signature red Energy Dome hats.

Formed in the early ’70s around the idea of “de-evolution,” Devo built a career skewering consumer culture and rock-star excess. Though original members Bob Casale and Alan Myers have passed, the band continue to record and tour, bringing their manic, tightly wound set to festival crowds.

Want a preview? Check out their recent show at the Brooklyn Paramount: Brooklyn Paramount 2025.

For fans of Talking Heads, The B-52s, or Oingo Boingo — Devo’s blend of art-rock and danceable punk is a festival set that rewards both nostalgia and first-time listeners.

Short, sharp, and visually unforgettable — plan to catch Devo on Friday. Their set is an essential stop for anyone into weird, witty rock with a performance bent as strong as the songs.
