DJ DollaMenu Releases New Album ‘Good Question’: Exclusive Q&A

I was honored to get an early listen to DJ DollaMenu’s newly released full album, Good Question. From a slight Griselda touch ‘tip toeing’ throughout the album, to the experimental southern trap beats laced with subtle samples that complement DollaMenu’s pleasantly verbose style.

Solid production, punch-heavy delivery, battle rap-inspired wordplay, and tales of his life as a thriving creative, ‘having his way’ and setting the tone as a brand in Charleston hip hop. DJ DollaMenu brought out the belt for Good Question.

DollaMenu went to NYC in 2023 and came back with “Blue Checks” feat Conway The Machine and he also paid homage to the late MF Doom in 2024 with his tribute tape, Doom Dolla.

Although Dolla has always been known to bring the bars over a spectrum of production styles, these specific backdrops show heavy influence in Good Question from the production choice and sampling to his bar-riddled lyricism and one of a kind style. This is especially present in tracks like “What You Do” and “Blessed”.

As a fan of DollaMenu’s work, I enjoy his ‘rhymes of luxury.’ He can not only keep up with the best pens in the game, but continues to elevate the standards of what it means to be an independent rap artist AND a brand in Charleston.

To delve deeper into the process behind Good Question, I had a brief Q&A with DJ DollaMenu, about the album’s intention, production space, and what’s to come for the denim-clad homie, as we galavant through 2025.

Q&A with DJ DollaMenu: Good Question Album Release

Extra Chill: What was the production process like for you?

DJ DollaMenu: I wanted to make stuff like “Geeked” from my previous project, so I leaned more towards that sort of production on this one. I still wanted the grandiose instrumental I could get lyrical on too, so I brought Baad Beats back in for those. I’ve been listening to a lot of Veeze, Babyface Ray, and DC2Trill recently. So I wanted stuff that would knock in the whip but still had room for me to talk that player shit on.

What would you say is your personal mission statement for the album?

DJ DollaMenu: This project is a temp check on how I’m doing and what Ive been on. I love putting out the visuals and music, but I also wanna be transparent about where my mental is at when I’m making it. At least, the stuff I’m comfortable talking about. Like “Scroll” is literally about my social media addiction and how I try to find the happy medium of market research for my art/doomscrolling, lol. But also, I use the music as a tool to celebrate my wins in life and manifest more of ’em. So lots of fly shit!

Given that this is a solid 12-piece, what are the next moves for rolling out the album (visuals/release events), and what can your fanbase expect in 2025, at a glimpse?

DJ DollaMenu: Yeah, definitely expect back-to-back visuals for the songs. I’m going to implement these sounds in the upcoming shows. Once I knock out the visuals for all of them, I’m dropping another project. Gotta keep the pen going!
