Dan Auerbach of rock duo The Black Keys surprised Charleston on Monday, August 29th when he popped up at The Royal American to spin vinyl all night long. The free 9pm performance was announced just a few short hours prior to start time, and not surprisingly the venue was at capacity before 9pm even arrived, with a line wrapped all the way around the parking lot.

For a few magical hours, Auerbach threw down old school records and meshed them with steady grooves as the crowd collectively bobbed along.

As the show went on, tracks jumped from smooth-sailing soul to wailing rock ā€˜nā€™ roll. Auerbach kept a watchful eye on the pulse of the audience the whole night, as he skillfully switched from song to song.

The performance took place on the eve of The Black Keys and Band of Horses show at Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island on Tuesday, August 30th. Patrick Carney, the other half of the Black Keys, was also in attendance at the Royal American, though he did not make his way over to the stage.
