On Thursday, February 20th, Austin punk rockers CorMae celebrated the release of their latest single, “CA Sober” with a high-energy show at Mohawk, joined by locals Shysters and Exotic Fruitica.

Photographer Steve Hughes was in the mix for Extra Chill, capturing the band’s quirky pop-punk styling and signature energetic set. He noted that lead vocalist Amber Appleton (aka Ambi Mi) makes people want to smile and dance, bringing infectious charisma to the stage. CorMae closed with a punky version of Sheb Wooly’s “Purple People Eater”, a crowd favorite and a personal highlight for Steve.

In addition to Amber, CorMae features an all-star lineup of Austin musicians, including:

  • Cait McCoy (Flags) on bass
  • Aaron Gilligan (Exotic Fruitica) on drums
  • Maria de Los Angeles Romero (Bee Blackwell) on guitar
  • Camille Jackson (Paper Sister) on guitar
  • Tessa Cayton (TC Jester) on lead guitar

“CA Sober” will be on CorMae’s upcoming EP, set to drop in April, with a release party at 13th Floor on April 19th – the band’s one-year anniversary. The group will also play several shows during SXSW, which you can find out about on their Instagram.
