Brave Baby’s new album, 3x blood, was released on September 20th, and they celebrated with a release party on September 21st at Lo-Fi Brewing in Charleston, SC, with support from The Simplicity. 3x blood shows the longtime Charleston band is back in full form, with a matured perspective and perhaps their strongest body of work to date.

3x blood is the first Brave Baby album release since 2015’s Electric Friends, which helped them rise to the status of kings of the music scene, with sold out shows all over town every time they played. Nearly a decade has passed since then, and the band has had time to decide what they truly want, and fall back in love with the idea of creating and playing music together.

Highlights from 3x blood, for me, include “Cloak of Love,” which includes a fun nod to Cher’s “Believe” with the reverb on the chorus. Following that is “GPS”, for the nostalgic lyrical brilliance, with Keon singing about doing nice things just to get good karma. “Little Buzz On”, which premiered here at Extra Chill, is a fun country-influenced track about getting drunk with your friends. The closing track, “Outta Shape”, sends it home on an emotional note.

For the album release show, Lo-Fi Brewing was lit up by the local production company, Prizm, bringing a visual flair that included lots of lasers. Brave Baby’s setlist included many of the new tracks, and also plenty of the classics from Electric Friends and Forty Bells (2013) and of course, the fan-favorite “Soothsayer”.

Brave Baby’s next show in Charleston is on November 14th at the Charleston Music Hall, opening for Local Natives. They will also play in Greenville, Charlotte, and Columbia with Trash Panda on 10/17, 10/18, and 10/19, respectively.
