Pierce Alexander – “Stain”

Pierce Alexander dropped a new single, “Stain,” on Friday. It’s the first track the artist has released since his recent move to Nashville and also features Coco Camp, aka Corey Campbell (Babe Club).

“Stain” begins with just Alexander’s vocals and a simple downtempo beat. The mood is dreamy but somber, with a darkness emphasized by lyrical details that describe walls caving in and a poignant line that hints at some kind of betrayal: “Got your fix but somehow you’re still broke.”

A guitar cuts in after the first chorus, creating a bolder sound, though the song is still thoroughly routed in pop. Despite the gloom detailed in the lyrics (“Wipe away the stain you have created”) and the muted nature of the instrumentation, Alexander’s voice is mesmerizing, and the beat sinks an anchor into your brain that makes it hard to listen to the track just once.

“The song was a collaborative musical effort between Corey and I, and having his input ended up bringing the song into more of a bedroom pop world,” Alexander said.

“Stain” is part of an upcoming EP that Alexander is working on with Campbell, who also mixed, recorded, and produced the track. Stream the song below and stay tuned from more music to come.
