We are coming around the bend and all roads are leading to Royal American for the sophomore Cultura Festival. I’ve been dropping small introductions to the featured artists line up, to shed some light and prep you to see these amazing, #GxldApproved creatives ‘mix up’ May 6th. Next up, R Dotta one of Charleston’s true gems in the rising underground hip-hop scene in Charleston.

Charleston City Paper’s 2020 Up and Coming Rapper of the year, R Dotta, has been a beacon for independent hip-hop in Charleston for some time now. He is the epitome of tireless work effort, consistency, and authenticity. Without putting the homie in a box, I feel that he’s one of the coldest ‘reality rappers’ I’ve heard out of the city. His music is not only entertaining, but grounding. Every song comes with a certain level of conviction that is not only relatable, but motivates you to attract and be ambitious enough to go get it!

From his 2019 debut album Call Me Dott, to shedding pieces of his old self and evolving into the refined artist he has become-we have watched R Dotta drop bread crumbs of knowledge, pain, and introspection over the years. With his most recent release We Only Live Forever, you can see the strides and level of mastery that R Dotta has reached with his craft, as well as him tapping into different spectrums of himself as an emcee.

On top of being a heart-centered lyricist with fluid delivery, grade A production, and a deep story, it’s been a delight to see him evolve and grow into a seasoned live performer. Over the last year he’s been at venues like Music Farm, Charleston Pour House, Royal American, and the list continues.

So look forward to watching R Dotta rock the stage May 6th at this year’s Cultura Fesitival and check out his #GxldAppproved tunes below! Tickets to Cultura available here.
