Doom Flamingo – “Evil”

Doom Flamingo dropped a new track, “Evil,” on Friday, just in time for Halloween. It’s the band’s most recent release following In The Rain, their first live album, which came out earlier in October.

“Evil” begins with a stormy buildup of feedback and foggy noise, followed by some ominous synth sounds balanced by a jammy beat. Lyrics about time flowing slowly and feeling it in your footsteps stream uncannily from Kanika Moore’s legendary vocal chords. “Evil,” she sings in the chorus, echoed by a robotic computer voice and zoomy synth notes.

The track shows Doom Flamingo leaning into the darker side of their synthwave style, lacing the soundscape with spooky breathing sounds and eerie tones. Nods to the 80s and bright guitar riffs give the song some levity, though, and it ultimately comes across as fresh and fun.
