Nordista Freeze – “Slow It Down”

Nashville-based psych-pop artist Nordista Freeze released a new single, “Slow It Down,” earlier this week. The tune comes from the new album, Big Sky Pipe Dream, that he’s set to drop next week, for which he successfully ran a crowdfunding campaign for on social media this summer.

“Slow It Down” is indeed slower than many of the songs we are familiar with from Freeze, and the addition of a slightly americana sound adds an element of good-old-fashioned melancholy to the track.  The lyrics reflect on a series of unlucky and unsuccessful romantic encounters. “I fell in love last week / with the girl across the street,” Freeze admits, but it doesn’t end happily ever after.

Downtrodden, he turns to another female for advice. “Sister says I’m comin on too strong,” and “sister says I’ve gotta slow it down,” he laments. After nothing comes of this guidance, the lyrics fade away, the song slows down even more, and we’re left to bask in the melodic guitar sounds as we contemplate our own failed attempts at love.

Like all Nordista Freeze songs, it’s hard to listen to “Slow It Down” without thinking about his stage presence — nobody can stir up the energy quite like Freeze, and we can’t wait to see him live in Charleston again soon.
