Tonya Nicole – “Cotton Candy”

South Carolina native Tonya Nicole released a new single, “Cotton Candy,” on Saturday. This is the artist’s second release since her debut single “Limbo” earlier this year. It’s a high-tempo pop song that’s given R&B depth through Nicole’s rich voice and impressive range.

The track, which was produced and mixed by Dries Vandenberg of SUSTO and Human Resources and mastered by Thomas Kenney of Doom Flamingo and Oukuo, is sweet but not saccharine, and Nicole’s descriptive, story-telling lyrical style leaves a lasting impression on the listener. “I notice I’m happier / after we make love” she sings.

“Cotton Candy” is fast-paced, with a beat that calls to mind electro-dance music of the early 2000s. There are interesting quirks layered throughout the track, like the occasional bird chirping. “Cotton Candy” is a fun, soulful single that leaves us eagerly anticipating what’s to come from this artist.
