Pedro English – “Verizon” (Video)

Yesterday, South Carolina hip-hop veteran Pedro English dropped the video for “Verizon”, the first track off his upcoming project Sir English. The video features nature shots recorded by English’s longtime friend and collaborator Ment Nelson, which were originally intended for a National Geographic Parks project but evolved into this music video.

As a founding member of the trio OxyMoron, Pedro English has been part of the SC hip-hop scene since at least 2008. The trio started out at Francis Marion University and consisted of English along with his friends Ment Nelson and Tony London. They released several albums together with the culmination being 2015’s Souf Cak, though each artist has also released solo material and collaborated in between.

“Verizon” kicks off the new project Sir English with a laid-back and soulful beat, while Pedro offers up a few bars to loosen up. The vibe is warm and peaceful, and the scenes of wildlife and mountains featured in the video contribute to that warm feeling. It’s the first release from Pedro English this year, curiously falling on the same day as the “Get Out” video dropped in 2020.
