Hot Mustard – “Window Seat” (Video)

Instrumental funk act Hot Mustard released their second single, “Window Seat,” today. The duo, composed of artist/producer and guitarist Jack Powell and bassist Nick Carusos, displays its signature eclectic mash-up of smooth beats and full-bodied horn sound on the new track.

“Window Seat” opens with a groove-heavy bassline and drum beat, and an all-brass horn section, which features Grammy-nominated trumpeter Jordan Mclean of Antibalas and trombonist Dave “Smoota” Smith of TV on the Radio, quickly adds rich dimension to the soundscape. The song takes a darker, almost melancholy tone about a third of the way through, differing in that respect from Hot Mustard’s previously released tunes, but a funky rhythm and cinematic ambience are maintained throughout its entirety.

“Window Seat” is paired with an animated music video created by none other than Powell himself under the artist moniker Opus Thimble. It’s an intricate and captivating visual representation of the music.

You can keep your eyes peeled for Hot Mustard’s upcoming debut album, Mother Sauce, which drops on September 3rd. In the meantime, check out the video for “Window Seat” below.
