girlpuppy – “Chateau Lobby #4 (in D for Two Virgins)”

Atlanta singer-songwriter girlpuppy has released a cover of Father John Misty’s “Chateau Lobby #4 (in C for Two Virgins)”, which comes from his 2015 album I Love You, Honeybear and at this point could be considered a modern indie rock classic. girlpuppy puts her own spin on it by performing the song in the key of D rather than C, with instrumentation from John Michael Young (Lunar Vacation) and violin from Dan Fetterolf (Daddy’s Beemer). It sounds a bit brighter than the Father John Misty version, without losing the mellow nostalgia that makes the original so memorable.

girlpuppy’s Becca Harvey has teamed up with producer Marshall Vore for the creation of the debut girlpuppy EP, which is currently in the works. Vore notably worked with Phoebe Bridgers on both Punisher and Stranger in the Alps (he co-wrote “Scott Street”, enough said). I’d say Vore as a producer is just about the best choice that Becca could have made for her style, so this EP is probably going to be excellent. Check out the Vore-produced single “Cheerleader”, released last summer, and stay tuned for the rest of the EP soon.
