Mardy Says & Slim S.O.U.L – “Damn” + “OTW”

Charleston hip-hop artists and longtime friends and collaborators Mardy Says (of Speakerbox) and Slim S.O.U.L have teamed up on the release of two new tracks, “Damn”, which features Slum Chronic, and “OTW” featuring Kyng Rich. The tracks follow the Mardy Says tape 18th Floor, released earlier this year and also featuring a few collabs with Slim.

“Damn” features a deep, booming bass accented with tripped-out synth while Mardy and Slim spit bars. Here the gentlemen are calling upon fake friends and people who are just out for themselves, saying how they’re afraid to come out of hiding after they’ve been exposed as frauds. “Damn, thought you was the man in the Chuck / said you was ’bout it, ’bout it / nobody gave a fuck”, the hook challenges.

“OTW” is less of a beef track and more of a track about handling your business and keeping it real. In a way it serves as a perfect companion to “Damn”, as “Damn” talks smack, while “OTW” is a reminder of where Mardy and Slim came from and how far they’ve come.

Slim himself has had a huge year in 2020. He has really developed as an artist and made a name for himself over the summer by showing up as a leader during the Black Lives Matter protests. His non-profit S.O.U.L Power Productions has also gained a lot of traction and Slim is well on his way to accomplishing the goals of the organization, which include offering music education to underprivileged youths. Slim has also been spearheading a weekly live music series at the Charleston Pour House every Monday night that features a rotating cast of Slim & Friends.
