Saba – “So and So” (Video)

Last week, Chicago rapper Saba (of Pivot Gang) released two new songs, “So and So” and “Areyoudown? Pt.2”, which includes a feature from fellow Chicago rapper and Pivot Gang member tobi lou. “So and So” came along with a music video that was initially dropped through the rapper’s text message subscribers, which is the first time I’ve seen this used as a way to drop a music video. I’m sure Saba isn’t the first one to do this, but he’s surely ahead of the curve because other artists haven’t had the chance to make us sick of it yet.

“So and So” and “Areyoudown? Pt.2” follow the September release of two more songs: “Mrs. Whoever” and “Something in the Water” ft. Denzel Curry. Fans are waiting patiently for news about a new solo album, the follow-up to the acclaimed 2018 release CARE FOR ME, which is his second solo album and the one that put his name on major festival lineups like Bonnaroo, Governor’s Ball, and Electric Forest. In 2019 Saba and Pivot Gang also released a collaborative album called You Can’t Sit With Us.

Saba is known for his versatile flow and being able to blend into many different styles. It’s crucial to have a knack for that in today’s music landscape, where it’s so easy to sound like somebody else and it often feels like everything has been done before. “So and So” has Saba changing things up, even within the confines of a two minute song. The video has him vibing out and spitting his rhymes among colorful sheets hung out to dry.
