Young Mister – “Familiar Colors”

Young Mister has just released a new single called “Familiar Colors”, the second new song to come from him since the 2019 release of the fantastic record Sudden Swoon. The song is vaguely reminiscent of the pre-COVID days, with themes of missing your friends and being stuck at home scrolling through Instagram, but it’s also very much about growing up and out of your old habits, routines, and friendships. I know this is high praise, but I’m not really afraid to give high praise to Young Mister, because it’s usually well-deserved: I’m hearing some serious Tom Petty vibes on the hook, and I’m hearing Ben Gibbard everywhere else.
