On Friday, Charleton-based songwriter and producer Nivlac Retxab released a powerful new single called “Fields”. The song speaks directly to the issues of racism and white supremacy that are currently coming to a boiling point in America, and is written as a questioning letter to white people who claim to feel the pain of black people.
“Fields” offers some perspective to white folks who are trying to figure out what’s going on right now. It points out the glaring elephant in the room: the stain of slavery on American society, and how instead of love, compassion, and understanding, white America has offered black America systemic racism, police brutality, and white supremacy. It’s time for that to change, and it’s in the process of changing right now.
Nivlac’s message inspires reflection, and includes the powerful sentiment: “You feel our pain? / If that’s the case then can we switch places?”
