One that slipped through the cracks last week was the video for “Spell” by Quinn Cicala, who is a newly-transplanted Charleston resident along with the band Cicala. The track comes from Quinn’s 2019 solo album Talkin’ To Breathe. The video features Quinn’s friend Drew Jacobs doing an interpretive dance on and under a Myrtle Beach pier, dressed in a blazer and dress pants with a red beanie. It’s a very simple video, but it’s random and funny and it works very well.
Quinn is a lyricist and his songs often present feelings of nostalgia and being lost in a way that is extremely relatable. He releases a lot of music and music-related content both by himself and with Cicala. During the month of May he’s been uploading one song every day to his Soundcloud. The band also just filmed another music video at their house this past weekend so we should be hearing more about that soon.
