The 5 Best Charleston NYE Parties to Close Out 2019

We’ve made it to the final days of 2019, and if you’re anything like Team Extra Chill, you’re ready to put this beast of a decade to rest with one last fiesta. There are a ton of options for New Year’s Eve parties in Charleston this year, so we wanted help you narrow it down to just a few that are actually worth your time and money. If you’re looking to avoid an overpriced frat party and maybe even catch some live music this NYE, you’ve come to the right place.

Find below our picks for the best New Year’s Eve parties in Charleston this year.

Ball in the Hall: The Artisanals, Babe Club, and Keon Masters at Charleston Music Hall

For local music on New Year’s Eve, Ball in the Hall at the Charleston Music Hall is your best bet. The Artisanals return for their first Charleston performance since just before Halloween, when they opened a sold-out show for Mt. Joy at the Music Farm. Babe Club ripped through the house show scene & more in 2019, most recently when they played a pop-up show with Illiterate Light at The Embassy. They’re still sitting on an EP that we all know is a homerun, and they’ll probably play the whole thing and more on NYE. Keon Masters (formerly of Brave Baby) is fresh off a headlining set at Extra Chill Fest and the release of his solo debut Many Thanks. This is going to be a good show.

The Charleston Music Hall has also teamed up with our friends at The Royal American for this event, which means that the Royal team will be at the show selling a signature Champagne punch in the classic Royal American cups.

When: Tuesday, December 31st 9pm to 12:30am

Cost: $20 advance, $25 day-of, $15 with student ID. Tickets here.

The Fritz + Toubab Krewe at Charleston Pour House

The Charleston Pour House wouldn’t let NYE slip past without a party of their own, and this year they’ve got familiar Asheville acts The Fritz and Toubab Krewe on the bill, with a free deck show from Nocturnal Kernalz earlier in the day. Both dance rock band The Fritz and African-inspired Toubab Krewe have hit the Pour House stage several times over the years, and The Fritz recently performed at the Pour House’s inaugural Into The Woods Festival this past October. This is going to be a groovy way to party out the final minutes of 2019 and dance your way into the new decade.

When: Doors at 8pm. Nocturnal Kernalz on the deck at 4pm.

Cost: $20 tickets here. Deck show is free.

Mike Martin & The Beautiful Mess w/ Old 52 at Burns Alley

We love a good dive bar New Year’s Party, and we love it even more when that dive bar is Burns Alley. This NYE, Burns will bring in locals Mike Martin & The Beautiful Mess and Old 52 to provide a soundtrack for the final hours of 2019. The $20 cover includes all you can drink champagne, and since the rest of their drinks are so cheap it’s sure to unfold into a rowdy night.

When: Tuesday, December 31st at 9pm

Cost: $20 at the door

Fancy as F*ck New Year’s Eve Party at The Royal American

While The Royal American has gotten involved with the show at the Charleston Music Hall, they’ve also cooked up a New Year’s Eve party of their own. Our pal DJ MoldyBrain will be out there spinning beats all night, and Royal will be serving up a free chili bar, a complimentary “champagne” (of beers?) toast, and plenty of party favors. While this is technically a fancy party, I wouldn’t expect to see anybody dancing the Charleston at the Royal American.

When: Tuesday, December 31st at 8pm

Cost: $20 at the door. Advance tickets available at the bar.

New Year’s Eve at The Alley

Downtown Charleston bowling alley and bar The Alley has a great NYE party planned, with a silent disco, a soundtrack from DJ Phantasmik, free bowling and arcade games, and more. If you really want to ball out, they’ve also got a few VIP bowling lanes available.

When: Tuesday, December 31st from 9pm to 1am

Cost: $75 early bird, $85 general admission, $750 VIP bowling lane for 6. Tickets here.
