Malik – “july”

Charleston up-and-coming rapper Malik just released a new single called “july”. Malik is a Charleston native, and says that he first got into music with the help of his older brother, who introduced him to rapping when he was in middle school. From there, he began writing and recording music in a studio rigged up at his aunt’s house in North Charleston, and spent time developing his skills that brought him to where he stands today.

Malik currently works at the Music Farm, and lives downtown where he’s got a studio rigged up at his spot to record and produce his own tracks. “july” has a lo-fi feel that certainly feels like it was produced in a bedroom, but Malik’s laid-back flow shines through. He says that capturing the right vibe when recording is all about having the right people around him to feed their energy into the booth.

This coming fall, Malik has plans to release some joint EPs with a group he’s part of called W.M.T.M., and he’s got an album in the works that will be released next year. Check out “july” below, and head over to his Soundcloud to hear more of his tunes.
