SUSTO – “Daniel” (Elton John Cover)

This morning, SUSTO released a cover of Elton John’s “Daniel”, off his 1973 album Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player. This is the first new music we’ve heard from SUSTO since the release of their third album, Ever Since I Lost My Mind back in February. They recently spent a few months on the road and in Europe in support of the album, and they’re currently gearing up to hit the road again for a few US festival dates before flying back over for another run through Europe. See full SUSTO tour dates on their website here.

SUSTO’s cover of “Daniel” stays true to the original, but doesn’t shy away from adding elements of their own sound. Naturally we get Justin Osborne’s raspy southern accent in place of Elton’s British one, which gives the tune a more deliberate feel overall. Like the original, SUSTO’s version features both an acoustic guitar and that airy synth, but SUSTO also adds an electric guitar to the mix that wasn’t present on Elton’s version. This places “Daniel” right on SUSTO’s americana rock spectrum, while still paying homage to the undeniable greatness of Elton John.
