Shovels & Rope – “I’m Comin’ Out”

Earlier this week, Shovels & Rope premiered “I’m Comin’ Out”, the opening track on their upcoming album By Blood, with Consequence of Sound. By Blood will be released on Friday, April 12th, which is now exactly two weeks away, and also happens to be the eve of the third annual High Water Festival, which as you probably know, is curated by Shovels & Rope.

The song’s lyrics speak to a new beginning, with Cary Ann Hearst singing lead and weaving symbols of rebirth and moving forward throughout. It’s a way for Shovels & Rope to make a statement right at the start of the album, and the structure and production of “I’m Comin’ Out” is much more adventurous than we’re used to hearing from them.

Listen to “I’m Comin’ Out” by Shovels & Rope below, and catch them at High Water Festival here in Charleston on the weekend following the release of By Blood. Shovels & Rope play Sunday, April 14th at 7pm. Full schedule and tickets here.
