For the past few weeks, SondorBlue has been hinting at the release of “Red Song” on their social media channels. Yesterday, they quietly released the track on all streaming platforms. The band has also wiped their Instagram clean, aside from posts having to do with the new track, which leads me to believe that they are hoping to do a bit of re-branding. That belief has been magnified upon listening to “Red Song”.
With “Red Song”, SondorBlue seems to be headed in a more experimental direction, and while I don’t think they’ll completely abandon their original sound, I do think that this is an interesting route for this band to take. “Red Song” has a soulful feel, which we haven’t heard much of in any of their previous releases.
Six months ago, if you had asked me what SondorBlue would do next, I would have said something more along the lines of “Opinions”, with heavier rock ‘n’ roll tones and more of their catchy hooks and vocal harmonies. “Red Song” is not that at all, aside from the vocal harmonies. The track does not follow their usual song structure, but it works, and I’m intrigued, which I think is what they’re going for.
